RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA, CA –Blue California, an ingredient manufacturer in Southern California, announces a scientific seminar by leading macular pigment researcher John Landrum, PhD, at SupplyExpo 2005 in Anaheim, CA on March 19 at 10 am. Lutein is the primary carotenoid in the macula (the central area of the eye’s retina). Lutein’s special ability to increase macular pigment and shield the eye from damaging sunlight has been shown to decrease the risk and significantly slow the progress of age-related macular degeneration. Dr.
Landrum obtained his BS and MS from California State University, Long
Beach. He earned a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Southern
California in 1980. Dr. Landrum then joined the faculty at Florida
International University in Miami and is currently a Full Professor
in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry there. He is most well
known for his studies on the carotenoids that compose the human macular
pigment. Dr. Landrum has directed graduate student research, published
over 40 journal papers, and won teaching and research awards.
